Message from Dr. Kazutoshi Fukagawa

I hold regular patient / family study sessions.

Deepen understanding by understanding our daily life and behavior as a function of the brain based on recent knowledge of brain science

It is an attempt to aim for a happier way of life.

This conversation is a reflection of that experience .

Therefore, I think that this content should not be described as a rigorous knowledge of brain science, but rather as my own interpretation to make it useful in our daily lives.

In the conversation, I was inspired by Mr. Okusu's words, and I had a very interesting and enjoyable experience in which the image that I had vaguely circulated in my head came out of my mouth as concrete words.

We hope that everyone who watches the dialogue video will also enjoy it.

対談2

Chapter 1 I can't recognize myself

Okusu : The reason why Dr. Fukagawa became a doctor was that he wanted to know humans . Please tell us how you came to that idea.

Fukagawa : Rather than being interested in humans themselves, it was because I wanted to know "myself" that everyone thinks when they are young.

I think everyone has conflicts and worries about living when they are young.

It means that I wanted to know the true nature of my own worries and conflicts.

This was the basis, and I gradually became interested in human beings as a whole.

While doing so, I proceeded to research on the brain.

Fukagawa : During the treatment, the patient asked, "How long will the rehabilitation continue? I often get the question.

Brain diseases may have sequelae if scratches remain on the brain.

Symptomatology can range from poor memory, forgetfulness, and slow judgment.

Many people feel that they may not be able to regain their original abilities in the midst of this.

From the patient's point of view, "What can I say is a complete cure?" When will the rehabilitation end? The question is one of the worries that I always have to have.

Okusu : I think the important thing is what you can say "improved", but what is the answer?

Fukagawa : It's going to be a long story, so let me talk about "how to recognize yourself" before that.

When we are born in this world, the first thing we need to do is get breasts from our mother.

From here, we realize that the first thing we need to recognize is the "mother," and thus the "other."

On the contrary, there is not much need to recognize the existence of a firm "self" in a newborn baby.

However, as you grow to a certain extent, you will come to recognize yourself.

For example, it is actually very difficult to recognize how you react to what you see in the mirror and what you see in it.

Why can you recognize yourself by seeing what you see in the mirror even though you have never seen yourself?

The answer is, "I notice my movement in the mirror."

The human brain is designed to trace the movements of others.

It simulates the movement of a human in the mirror.

If this simulation matches your movement, what you see in the mirror is nothing but yourself. There, I notice the existence of "I".

In other words, people first recognize themselves as others.

After that, it is human beings who eventually become aware of themselves.

Humans do not have a system that recognizes oneself, but one recognizes oneself by applying a system that recognizes others to oneself.

Okusu : In other words, you are reusing the function of recognizing yourself and others with one device.

Fukagawa : That's right.

Life is made that way because it is more efficient to reuse what is already there.

This can be said to be the mechanism of evolution.

Okusu : If you increase the number of functions, you will take up more memory, so is it okay to interpret that you have started to use many functions with one device?

Fukagawa : That's right.

For example, birds also grow feathers to warm their bodies, and as they develop, they have the ability to fly.

Okusu : I see. This is also the same. This "reuse" is an accurate expression, isn't it?

Fukagawa : Yes. In this way, humans recognize themselves by applying functions for recognizing others.

Lecture video "Neurologist talks about how to be independent and independent for people who have difficulty living"

Video broadcast time: 1 hour 18 minutes (viewed from the dedicated site)

We will deliver a video of a lecture on higher brain dysfunction given by Kazutoshi Fukagawa, a neurologist.

Higher brain dysfunction is not a story of a special person, but a story that applies to everyone.

Memory disorder ← No one remembers what they remembered

Attention disorder ← No one makes a mistake

· Executive function failure does not have people who will be able to all of it

Often true when taking a test for higher brain dysfunction

Even experts say that after the test, "I also have higher brain dysfunction, so please see my teacher" and come to Dr. Fukagawa.

Then, Professor Fukagawa is told, "This is because there is a part that applies to everyone."

Dr. Kazutoshi Fukagawa will tell such a story in an easy-to-understand manner.

In addition, the PDF text of "About higher brain dysfunction " is attached to this distribution video as related material.

Please watch the delivered video on the dedicated video site described in the PDF text.

Suppose you hit your head hard and were hospitalized for neurosurgery.

You can spend your time in the hospital without any problems.

"Is not it has become quite well. Early in advance back to work." Also from the direction of the visit smb. Who is ill doctors will be encouraged and the like.

The hospital also allows me to leave the hospital saying, "I don't need treatment anymore."

When I was discharged from the hospital, however, it was somewhat different.

I get angry because of a trivial trigger, and when I think about it, I lose my patience and can't continue reading the newspaper .

I went to work at once, but it took me a day to make one document, and although I had a hard time making it, I couldn't use it because of typographical errors and mistakes.

At first, I was sick , so I couldn't help but forgive my workplace for months.

It has been said that the treatment was ended with very much before the hospital but it difference is, do not know be nice if the consultation what exactly Ikena Inoka, anywhere.

In the meantime, he was forced to retire because he couldn't work, and at home he was constantly in divorce and separated from his family.

Why did it come to such a disastrous end?

You already know. It's because of the "invisible sequelae".

As a result of acquired brain damage

・ Attention disorder

・ Memory disorder

· Executive function failure

・ Cognitive disorders such as social behavior disorders

The aftereffects of this cannot be seen from the outside.

Cognitive functions such as attention and memory can not know or outside it from the appearance.

Therefore, no one else knows if cognitive function is impaired.

All we know is "behavior as a result of subjective psychological processes ."

Lowering of attention is reflected in the behavior of careless mistakes to, and then surfaced as the act of such as a decrease in memory is to forget the promise.

However, it is difficult for people around us to recognize the appearance of such cognitive impairment (decrease in cognitive function) as a sequela because it can happen to anyone on a daily basis, such as a slight mistake or forgetting the schedule.

And "I am bother. Lazy to have." Will be blame and is Chidesu.

In other words, cognitive impairment, which is a problem in higher brain dysfunction, is not visible from the outside ...

In other words, it can be said to be an "invisible sequelae."
